Rides for Every Kind of Medical Appointment
Not every trip that needs a ride is an emergency, and not every ride is the same. Presence NEMT covers routine doctor visits, specialist consultations, imaging appointments (X-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound), lab draws, follow-up visits after a hospital stay or procedure, and pre-op or post-op checkups across Fort Worth, Dallas and the surrounding DFW communities.
These trips matter more than they get credit for. A missed specialist visit can delay a diagnosis for weeks. A skipped lab draw can leave a physician managing a condition blind. When driving yourself is not possible and family cannot always take the day off, a dependable ride keeps the calendar on track.
Primary Care and Specialist Visits
Routine primary care check-ins and specialist consultations — cardiology, endocrinology, orthopedics, neurology and beyond — are the most common trips we run. We plan for the building or campus ahead of time so a new specialist's office isn't a mystery on arrival, and drivers assist from the vehicle into the waiting room rather than dropping off at the curb.
Imaging and Lab Work
Imaging appointments (X-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound) and standalone lab draws are often short but time-sensitive, since many require fasting or a specific arrival window. A wait-and-return trip usually fits these well, keeping the driver nearby so there's no gap between finishing and heading home.
Pre-Op and Post-Op Visits
Pre-surgical clearance visits and post-operative follow-ups both come with their own timing pressure: pre-op visits often have paperwork and testing that stretch the appointment length, while post-op visits may involve a patient who is still recovering mobility. We ask which type of visit it is so we can recommend wait-and-return versus a scheduled return pickup.
Injections and Wound Care
Recurring injection appointments (such as joint injections or certain infusion-adjacent treatments) and wound care visits are frequently scheduled weekly or biweekly. These are strong candidates for a standing schedule, since the appointment day and rough duration tend to stay consistent.
Therapy and Rehab
Physical, occupational and speech therapy sessions typically run several times a week for a period of weeks. We coordinate a standing pickup schedule so the patient and therapy office both know what to expect, and drivers are trained to assist with walkers, wheelchairs and transport chairs at pickup and drop-off.
Cardiology, Pulmonology and Nephrology Follow-Ups
Chronic condition management often means recurring follow-up visits with a cardiologist, pulmonologist or nephrologist, sometimes alongside related testing (echocardiograms, pulmonary function tests, lab panels) on the same day. We plan the pickup and return around the full visit, not just the appointment slot, so testing that runs long doesn't leave a patient stranded.
Wheelchair Riders and Seniors
Many of the appointments we cover are for passengers who use a wheelchair, walker or cane, or who simply move more slowly and need a driver who is not in a hurry. Our vans are ramp or lift equipped and drivers assist door-through-door — from the home, facility or apartment door to the vehicle, and again from the vehicle into the waiting room.
For seniors traveling alone, that assistance often matters more than the drive itself: checking in at the front desk, carrying a folder of paperwork, or simply being there if a hallway or elevator is confusing.
Wait-and-Return vs. Drop-and-Return Trips
Appointments vary in length, so we offer two ways to structure a trip. A wait-and-return has the driver stay nearby (or return at a scheduled time for shorter visits) so the passenger has a ride home the moment the appointment ends — useful for lab draws, quick specialist check-ins or imaging that typically runs 20-40 minutes.
A drop-and-return schedules a separate pickup later, which usually works better for longer appointments where the exact finish time is uncertain, such as a first visit with a new specialist or an appointment that includes testing. Tell dispatch which type fits when you book, or ask which one we'd recommend for the visit you have.
How Appointment Timing Is Planned
We build in time for check-in, mobility assistance and typical wait-room delays rather than aiming for the exact appointment minute. Recurring appointments — a monthly specialist follow-up, ongoing lab monitoring, a physical therapy series — are easiest to set up once as a standing schedule with a consistent pickup time. One-time appointments can typically be booked with a day or two of notice, and we do our best to accommodate shorter notice when the schedule allows.
The more specific you can be up front — pickup address, appointment time, mobility needs, and whether it's wait-and-return or drop-and-return — the smoother the trip runs. If you're not sure yet, call and we'll help sort out the details.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Can you take me to a specialist appointment I've never been to before?
- Yes. Give dispatch the address and appointment time and we'll plan the pickup and drop-off, including which building or entrance to use if the campus is large.
- What's the difference between wait-and-return and drop-and-return?
- Wait-and-return keeps the driver nearby so you have a ride home right after a shorter appointment. Drop-and-return schedules a separate pickup later, which works better for longer or less predictable visits.
- Can you bring a wheelchair or walker on these trips?
- Yes. Our vans accommodate wheelchairs, power chairs, walkers and rollators, and drivers assist door-through-door.
- How far in advance do I need to schedule an appointment ride?
- A day or two of notice is ideal, though we try to accommodate shorter notice depending on availability. Recurring appointments are easiest to set up as a standing schedule.
- Do you handle lab work and imaging appointments, not just doctor visits?
- Yes. We regularly transport passengers to lab draws, X-ray, CT, MRI and ultrasound appointments in addition to physician and specialist visits.
- Can family members ride along?
- In most cases, yes — mention it when booking so we can confirm space in the vehicle.
