Companion & Clinical Escort Support

Medical Appointment Companions & Clinical Escorts in Dallas-Fort Worth

Transportation gets them there. When a loved one should not navigate a medical outing alone, Presence offers optional companion, CNA, MA, or Nurse escort support — during the ride and, when arranged, through the appointment itself. Available upon request for an additional fee.

You may not be able to go with them. That doesn’t mean they have to go alone.

Companion and clinical escort support is optional, arranged in advance, and priced based on the level of support and length of the outing.

More Than Transportation

Most transportation companies solve one problem: how a patient gets to an appointment. Presence NEMT can help with a second one that families often worry about more — who will be with them once they arrive. Along with non-emergency medical transportation across Dallas-Fort Worth, we offer optional companion and clinical escort support for passengers who should not, or simply do not want to, navigate a medical outing alone.

Accompaniment is always optional and arranged in advance. It is not included with a standard ride, and no passenger is required to have a companion or escort in order to travel with us. When it is requested and appropriate, the person we assign can accompany the passenger during transportation and, when arranged, remain with them through the appointment or outing.

When Family Cannot Be There

The calls we take are rarely about logistics alone. An adult daughter cannot leave work for a three-hour specialist visit. A spouse can no longer manage a long wait in a clinic. An out-of-state son wants to know his father will not be sitting alone in an unfamiliar waiting room, unsure of where to check in or what happens next.

In those situations, transportation only answers half the question. Optional companion support means a family member can arrange both parts of the outing — the ride and the presence — in a single phone call, even when they cannot personally attend.

  • Appointments that run long, such as infusion, imaging or multi-provider visits
  • First visits to an unfamiliar hospital, clinic or treatment center
  • Passengers who become anxious or disoriented in busy healthcare settings
  • Families living out of town or unable to leave work
  • Repeated treatments where a familiar, supportive presence helps

Non-Clinical Companion Support

A non-clinical companion is exactly that — a supportive, professional presence. Companion support may include accompanying the passenger during transportation, waiting with them, remaining with them during the appointment when arranged, helping them navigate an unfamiliar building, and simply being there so the outing does not have to be faced alone.

Non-clinical companions do not provide nursing or medical care, do not administer medication, and do not participate in clinical decision-making. Their role is company, reassurance, and practical help getting through the outing.

  • Accompaniment during transportation
  • Remaining with the passenger during the appointment when arranged in advance
  • Waiting with the passenger through check-in, treatment and discharge
  • Help finding the right desk, department or waiting area
  • Reassurance and companionship throughout the outing
  • A present, professional presence when family cannot attend

CNA, MA & Nurse Escort Options

When a passenger requires a higher level of support than a non-clinical companion, Presence may also provide appropriately qualified clinical personnel — a CNA, an MA, or a Nurse — to accompany the transportation and, when arranged in advance, the appointment itself. Clinical escorts work only within their applicable scope of practice and licensure.

A clinical escort supports the passenger during the outing. They do not replace the passenger's treating physician, clinic staff or ordering clinician, and they do not change or direct the patient's plan of care. Clinical escort availability depends on staffing, the passenger's needs, and how far in advance the request is made, so we ask families and case managers to call as early as possible.

As a nurse-owned company with more than 40 years of combined healthcare experience, our team is used to talking through what level of support a situation actually calls for. If you are not sure whether you need a companion, a CNA, an MA, or a Nurse, tell us about the outing and we will help you decide.

Support for Older Adults & Loved Ones With Memory Concerns

Families often tell us the hardest part is not the drive — it is the thought of a parent with memory concerns being handed a clipboard in a crowded waiting room with no one beside them. Companion support may be especially reassuring for families of older adults or loved ones with memory concerns who may benefit from having a familiar, supportive presence throughout the outing.

We describe this honestly: this is accompaniment and support, not specialized memory or dementia care. We do not diagnose, monitor or treat cognitive conditions, and we do not represent our companions as memory-care clinicians. What we can offer is a calm, patient, professional presence for a loved one who should not have to navigate the outing alone.

  • Memory concerns that make an unfamiliar environment stressful
  • Anxiety about medical settings, procedures or waiting alone
  • Mobility limitations that make moving through a large facility difficult
  • Long appointments or repeated treatment visits
  • Situations where family simply cannot be present

Transportation and Appointment Accompaniment

Companion and clinical escort support is arranged alongside the ride itself, so one team handles the whole outing. Tell us the pickup location, the destination, the appointment time, the approximate length of the visit, the passenger's mobility needs, and whether you want the companion or escort to remain during the appointment. We confirm what is available and quote the additional cost before anything is scheduled.

Accompaniment pairs with any of our transportation services, including wheelchair transportation, senior and elderly transportation, hospital discharge transportation, dialysis and infusion rides, rehabilitation and therapy visits, and airport transportation for passengers who need assistance.

Presence NEMT serves Fort Worth, North Fort Worth, Haslet, Keller, Southlake, Colleyville, Grapevine, Dallas and surrounding communities across Tarrant County, Dallas County, Wise County and the greater DFW and North Texas service area. Companion and clinical escort availability varies by day and location, so please ask when you call.

For Case Managers & Healthcare Facilities

Some patients need more support than transportation alone. Presence can help coordinate optional non-clinical accompaniment or appropriately qualified clinical escorts, including CNA, MA, or Nurse support, based on the patient's needs and availability.

For discharge planners, case managers, skilled nursing, assisted living, memory care and rehabilitation partners, this means one vendor for complicated situations: vulnerable older adults, complex discharges, patients who need additional supervision or assistance throughout an outing, and appointments where no family member is able to accompany the patient. Call dispatch and describe the patient's support needs and we will tell you plainly what we can staff.

Cost and How to Request Support

Companion and clinical escort services are available at an additional cost based on the level of support requested and the length of the outing. Because every outing differs in duration and staffing, we quote each request individually rather than publishing a flat rate.

Call or text (817) 900-NEMT, or send the request form on this page, and a local team member will confirm availability, explain the options, and provide a quote before the trip is booked.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can someone stay with my elderly parent during a medical appointment?
Yes, when it is requested and arranged in advance. Presence can provide an optional companion or clinical escort who accompanies your parent during transportation and, when arranged, remains with them through the appointment. This is an optional add-on service with an additional fee and depends on availability.
Can Presence provide a companion for my parent's medical transportation?
Yes. Companion support can be added to a scheduled ride. Tell us the appointment time, the approximate length of the visit and whether you want the companion to stay during the appointment, and we will confirm availability and quote the additional cost.
Can someone accompany a passenger throughout the entire appointment?
When arranged in advance, yes. A companion or clinical escort can remain with the passenger for the duration of the outing. Because this affects staffing, longer appointments should be requested as early as possible.
Do you provide Nurse escorts for medical transportation?
Nurse escort support may be available upon request, depending on staffing and the passenger's needs. A Nurse escort works within their applicable scope of practice and supports the outing; they do not replace the passenger's treating clinician or direct the plan of care.
Can a CNA accompany a patient to an appointment?
CNA accompaniment may be available upon request and when appropriate for the passenger's needs. Availability depends on staffing and how far in advance the request is made.
Do you provide MA escorts?
MA accompaniment may also be available upon request, within the assistant's applicable scope. If you are unsure whether a companion, CNA, MA, or Nurse fits the situation, describe the outing and our team will help you determine the right level of support.
Can someone accompany a loved one with memory problems?
Companion support may be especially reassuring for families of older adults or loved ones with memory concerns who benefit from a familiar, supportive presence throughout the outing. This is accompaniment and support rather than specialized memory or dementia care, and we do not monitor, diagnose or treat cognitive conditions.
Can family arrange companion support even if they cannot attend?
Yes. Most requests come from an adult child, spouse or caregiver who cannot personally attend. You can arrange the ride and the accompaniment on your loved one's behalf and we will confirm the pickup and arrival with you.
Is companion support included with transportation?
No. Standard transportation does not include a companion, CNA, MA, or Nurse. Accompaniment is an optional service, requested separately, with an additional fee.
How much does companion or clinical escort support cost?
Companion and clinical escort services are available at an additional cost based on the level of support and the length of the outing. Call or text (817) 900-NEMT for a quote before the trip is scheduled.
