Nurse, CNA & Medical Assistant Travel Companions for Flights and Vacations

Taking a flight or planning a vacation? Presence can arrange a CNA, medical assistant, or nurse travel companion so your loved one doesn't have to travel alone — through the airport, on the flight, and during the trip when arranged in advance. Presence is always present.

Travel With Confidence

No one should have to make a hard trip alone. Presence can arrange a CNA, medical assistant or nurse companion for flights, airports and vacations — planned ahead, matched to the traveler, and confirmed with you before anything is booked.

Families call us for the same reason every time. The trip itself is not the hard part — the airport is. Long concourses, gate changes, security lines, connections, boarding, baggage, medications on a different clock, and a parent who used to handle all of it alone and now shouldn't. A travel companion means someone stays with the traveler from the moment they leave home until they are safely with family at the other end.

Presence is always present. That is the whole idea behind this service: a professional, patient person beside your loved one for the entire travel day, arranged in advance and matched to what the traveler actually needs.

Who Asks for a Medical Travel Companion

People find this service using very different words — a nurse for a flight, a medical flight companion, an airport medical escort, a vacation nurse, air travel assistance for seniors — and they are usually describing one of the same handful of situations:

  • An adult child looking for help flying with an elderly parent, often in one direction only, because they cannot make both trips themselves
  • A family wanting a senior or elderly flight companion for a parent who is still capable but should not manage a connection alone
  • A traveler who needs a wheelchair travel companion from curb to gate to seat and back again on the other end
  • A family arranging a travel companion for a disabled adult who does well with familiar routines and a steady person beside them
  • A household planning a vacation and wanting a nurse companion for vacation so a parent or grandparent can actually come along
  • A caregiver who needs medical travel assistance for seniors on a long itinerary with early departures, layovers and time-zone medication timing

What a Travel Companion Actually Does

Every trip is arranged individually, so the exact scope is confirmed with you before anything is booked. In plain language, travel companion support can include:

  • Airport navigation — check-in, security, finding the gate, gate changes and connections
  • Mobility assistance within the caregiver's role and scope, including wheelchair travel and coordinating airline-provided wheelchair assistance where the airline offers it
  • Staying with the traveler through the flight and the full travel day rather than dropping them at the curb
  • Help with routines — meals, hydration, rest breaks, restroom trips, reminders and keeping to a familiar schedule
  • Non-emergency, day-to-day needs and reassurance for a traveler who becomes anxious or disoriented in a busy terminal
  • Keeping the family informed — departure, landing and handoff at the destination
  • Remaining available during a vacation or trip when that is arranged in advance

Airport-to-Airport & Flight Accompaniment

Airport-to-airport accompaniment — what families often call an airport medical escort or an airport-to-airport medical companion — means the companion travels with your loved one on the same flight, sits with them, and stays with them through the terminal on both ends until they are handed off to the person meeting them. It is a common request for adult children who live in a different state and cannot fly out to make the trip in both directions.

If you only need airport travel companion support on this side — someone to get the traveler through check-in, security and to the gate without boarding the flight — that can be arranged too. Tell us which version of the trip you need.

We can arrange the local ground transportation on the Dallas-Fort Worth side as part of the same booking — pickup at home, a skilled nursing facility, assisted living community or hospital, and drop-off at DFW International or Dallas Love Field with the assistance the traveler needs.

Presence NEMT is not an airline and has no airline affiliation. We do not provide, control or guarantee airline services, airline wheelchair assistance, seating, upgrades or in-flight accommodations. We work with whatever the airline provides and we tell you honestly what is and is not in our hands. Flights and tickets, including the companion's ticket, are part of the arrangement we discuss with you before booking.

This is companion and caregiving support during commercial air travel. It is not an air ambulance, not a medical flight, and not emergency in-flight medical care. If a traveler needs clinical care or monitoring in the air, that requires an air medical transport provider, not a travel companion.

Vacation & Extended Trip Companion Support

Some families are not flying to a hospital — they are going on vacation, and they want a parent or grandparent to actually come. A vacation medical companion makes that possible. When arranged in advance, a CNA, MA, or Nurse can remain available during the trip so the rest of the family can enjoy it without one person carrying all of the caregiving.

Whether you are looking for a medical escort for vacation, a vacation nurse for a longer itinerary, or a flight and vacation medical escort who covers the travel days and the trip itself, it is arranged trip by trip: the dates, the destination, the daily hours the companion is available, where they stay, and what the traveler needs help with. Availability depends on staffing and how far ahead you ask, so the earlier you call the more we can do.

This is companion and caregiving support, not medical treatment, and not around-the-clock skilled nursing unless that is specifically arranged and appropriate. We will tell you plainly what we can staff for your dates.

Choosing the Right Level: CNA, MA, or Nurse

The level of companion support is matched to the traveler's needs, not sold as a package. If you are not sure whether you need a CNA travel companion, a medical assistant travel companion or a nurse travel companion, describe the trip and the traveler and our team will help you decide.

Every companion works only within their own lawful scope of practice and role. A CNA does not perform nursing tasks; a companion does not direct anyone's plan of care. No one on our team changes medications, gives medical advice, or replaces the traveler's treating clinician.

  • CNA — hands-on personal care and mobility assistance during the travel day within a certified nursing assistant's scope
  • MA — a medical assistant (MA) provides supportive care and practical assistance within an MA's applicable scope
  • Nurse — for travelers whose needs call for a licensed nurse's judgment and scope during the trip
  • Non-clinical companion — when the traveler mainly needs presence, navigation help and reassurance

Wheelchair & Mobility Needs While Traveling

A wheelchair travel companion is one of the most common reasons families call. A companion can assist with mobility within their role and scope, help manage the transition between a personal wheelchair and airline equipment, request and coordinate the assistance the airline offers, and keep track of the traveler's mobility device and belongings through the trip.

On the ground in Dallas-Fort Worth, our wheelchair-accessible vehicles handle the pickup and the airport run, including BRODA and Traversa reclined positioning for travelers who cannot sit upright comfortably for long. That is positioning support and a stretcher alternative, not an ambulance stretcher.

How to Arrange a Travel Companion

Planning a flight or vacation? Call or text Presence to arrange a travel companion. Tell us the travel dates, the airports or destination, the traveler's mobility and daily support needs, whether you want accompaniment on the flight itself or only through the airport, and whether you need support during the trip once you arrive.

We confirm what we can staff, explain the options honestly, and provide a quote before anything is scheduled. Because travel companion support depends on staffing and travel dates, please call as early as you can — weeks ahead is better than days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this an emergency ambulance service?
No. Presence NEMT provides non-emergency medical transportation and companion support only — no emergency response, and no medical intervention, monitoring or oxygen management en route. If someone is having a medical emergency, call 911.
Can a nurse or CNA fly with my parent?
Yes, when it is arranged in advance and we have staffing available for your dates. A CNA, MA, or Nurse can travel on the same flight, stay with your parent through both airports, and hand them off to the family member meeting them. Each caregiver works only within their own scope of practice.
Can I hire a nurse to fly with my elderly parent?
Yes, when arranged in advance and staffing allows. A nurse travel companion flies on the same itinerary, stays with your parent through both airports and the flight, supports mobility and daily routines within scope, and keeps you updated at departure, landing and handoff. Call as early as you can, since travel dates fill up.
Is a travel companion the same as a flight nurse?
No. 'Flight nurse' usually refers to a nurse working on an air ambulance or medical flight, providing clinical care in the air. Presence arranges a CNA, medical assistant or nurse travel companion for ordinary commercial flights — accompaniment, mobility help and routine support within scope. We do not provide air ambulance service or emergency in-flight medical care.
Do you offer an airport medical escort or airport nurse companion?
Yes. An airport travel companion can meet the traveler at home or a facility, handle the ride to DFW International or Dallas Love Field, and stay with them through check-in, security and the gate — either boarding the flight with them or handing off at the gate, whichever you arrange.
What air travel assistance is available for seniors?
A senior or elderly flight companion can assist with airport navigation, gate changes and connections, mobility and wheelchair needs within scope, meals, hydration, rest breaks and keeping to a familiar routine, plus updates to the family. It is companion and caregiving support, not medical treatment.
Can you help with a travel companion for a disabled adult?
Yes. Describe the traveler's mobility equipment, communication needs and daily routine when you call and we will confirm what level of companion we can staff for your dates and what falls inside that caregiver's scope.
Do you provide airport-to-airport travel companions?
Yes. Airport-to-airport accompaniment is one of the most common requests we get. The companion meets the traveler, goes through check-in and security with them, stays with them on the flight and through any connection, and remains with them at the destination airport until the handoff.
Can someone stay with my loved one during a vacation?
When it is arranged in advance, yes. A CNA, MA, or Nurse can remain available during a vacation or extended trip. We arrange this trip by trip — the dates, the destination, the daily hours of support and what the traveler needs help with — based on staffing availability.
What level of caregiver should we choose?
It depends on the traveler. A non-clinical companion suits someone who mainly needs presence and help navigating the airport. A CNA suits hands-on personal care and mobility assistance. An MA or Nurse suits travelers whose needs call for that scope. Describe the trip when you call and our team will help you decide.
Can you help with wheelchair or mobility needs during travel?
Yes, within the companion's role and scope. That includes mobility assistance through the terminal, coordinating the wheelchair assistance the airline offers, managing the transition between a personal wheelchair and airline equipment, and keeping track of the mobility device. Our wheelchair-accessible vehicles handle the ground transportation on the DFW side.
Do you arrange the flights and the companion's ticket?
Travel arrangements, including the companion's ticket, are part of what we discuss before booking. Presence NEMT is not an airline and has no airline affiliation — we do not provide or guarantee airline services, seating or in-flight accommodations.
Can a companion give medications or provide medical care during the trip?
No one on our team changes medications, gives medical advice, or directs a traveler's plan of care. Support is provided strictly within each caregiver's lawful scope of practice and role, and we will be specific with you about what that means for your loved one's trip.
How much does a travel companion cost?
Travel and vacation companion support is quoted individually because every trip differs in length, destination, travel dates and level of support. Call or text (817) 900-NEMT and we will confirm availability and provide a quote before anything is scheduled.
How far in advance should we book?
As early as possible. Travel companion support depends on staffing across multiple days, so requests made weeks ahead are far easier to fill than requests made a few days before a flight.
