What are travel and vacation nurse services?
Presence NEMT can arrange Medical Travel Assistance from a non-clinical companion through CNA, medical assistant, nurse, and nurse-practitioner levels for commercial flights and other planned journeys—so someone who needs extra support is not traveling alone.
Support is arranged trip by trip, based on the traveler's needs, our staffing for those dates, and each caregiver's lawful scope of practice.
Can I hire a nurse to fly with my elderly parent?
Yes. Presence can arrange a nurse to fly with your elderly parent as a fellow passenger on the same commercial itinerary, staying with them through the airports, flight, connections, and final handoff.
Can Presence arrange a Flight Nurse for a commercial flight?
Yes. Presence can arrange nursing support to accompany a loved one aboard a regular commercial airline. The nurse travels as a fellow passenger. This is different from an air ambulance, which Presence does not operate.

Need a Flight Nurse for a Commercial Flight?
Presence can arrange a nurse to accompany a loved one aboard a regular commercial airline. Airline assistance helps your loved one navigate the airport; a dedicated Presence professional stays with them through the journey.

If a traveler needs clinical care or monitoring while in the air, that requires an air medical transport provider — not a travel companion. We will say so plainly if that is what your situation calls for.

Every caregiver works only within their own lawful scope of practice and role. No one on our team changes medications, gives medical advice, or directs a traveler’s plan of care.
Clinical Support Behind the Journey
Your travel professional is not working in isolation. When clinical questions arise, Presence can provide access to nurse-practitioner support during normal business hours—even when a non-clinical companion, CNA, MA, or nurse is traveling.
This is not 24/7 or emergency coverage, and it does not replace 911, the treating clinician, airline medical clearance, or emergency services.
Accessible Travel Support for People With Disabilities
A disability shouldn’t decide which family moments a person gets to attend. Much of what we arrange is travel assistance for people with disabilities and travelers with limited mobility — accessible travel support built around how that person actually moves through a day.
Mobility Assistance While Traveling
Wheelchairs, power chairs, walkers, rollators, canes and travelers who can manage short distances but not long concourses. Transfers, pacing, rest and knowing where the traveler needs to stop.
Airport & Airline Navigation
Curbside, check-in, security, gate changes, boarding and arrival. Airline wheelchair assistance stays the airline's service to provide; a Presence companion is the person who stays with the traveler through all of it.
Support for Special Needs & Higher-Support Travelers
Travelers who need routines honored, sensory or cognitive patience, extra time, or a familiar rhythm to the day. We plan the trip around the person rather than the schedule.
Ground transportation on the Dallas-Fort Worth end can be part of the same plan, in a wheelchair-accessible vehicle to DFW International or Dallas Love Field, so the traveler isn’t handed between three different providers before the trip even starts.
Traveling With a Child Who Needs Extra Support?
Families traveling with a child who needs additional support are welcome to reach out. Start with a conversation rather than a booking: tell us the child’s age, the itinerary, who else is traveling, and the kind of support that would make the trip workable.
Presence will review the request — the age, the trip, the support needed, scope, and our staffing — and tell you plainly whether appropriate support can be arranged for that specific trip. If we are not the right fit, we will say so up front and, where we can, point you toward what is.
We would rather have an honest conversation about one child’s trip than publish a promise we cannot keep for every family who reads it.
Planning Travel Outside the United States?

We will be straightforward with you: Presence does not claim licensure, work authorization, cruise-line authorization or insurance coverage in another country or aboard a vessel unless it has been verified for your specific trip. Where something isn’t possible, we would rather tell you early than let you plan around it.

Travel support is arranged from Dallas-Fort Worth. Ground transportation on this end — pickup at home, an assisted living community, a skilled nursing facility or a hospital, and the run to DFW International or Dallas Love Field — can be part of the same plan, including wheelchair-accessible vehicles and reclined positioning support.

- Can I hire a nurse to fly with my elderly parent?
- Yes, when it is arranged in advance and staffing is available for your dates. A nurse travel companion flies on the same itinerary as a fellow passenger, stays with your parent through both airports and the flight, supports mobility and daily routines within scope, and keeps you updated at departure, landing and handoff.
- Can someone help my mom or dad through the airport and fly with them?
- Yes. A companion can meet the traveler at home, at an assisted living community, a skilled nursing facility or a hospital, handle the ride to DFW International or Dallas Love Field, and stay with them through check-in, security, the gate and the flight — or hand off at the gate if that is all you need.
- Is this the same thing as a flight nurse?
- Families use “flight nurse” for both air-medical clinicians and nurses who accompany travelers on commercial airlines. Presence can arrange the commercial-flight service: a nurse traveling as a fellow passenger beside your loved one. Presence does not operate air ambulances or emergency medical flights.
- Can a nurse accompany someone on a commercial airline?
- Yes — as a fellow passenger. The companion books travel on the same itinerary and provides accompaniment, mobility help and routine support within their scope. Presence NEMT is not an airline and has no airline affiliation, so airline services such as wheelchair assistance, seating and in-flight accommodations remain the airline's to provide.
- Can someone stay with my parent from home, through the airport, on the flight, and through handoff?
- That is the most common request we receive. Door-to-door accompaniment can cover the ride from home, both airports, the flight and any connection, ending with a handoff to the person meeting them. You can also arrange a shorter version — for example airport support on this end only.
- Can a companion help if a nurse isn't needed?
- Yes. Many travelers mainly need presence, patience, navigation help and reassurance. A non-clinical travel companion covers that. If you are unsure which level fits, describe the trip and our team will help you decide.
- Do you offer travel assistance for people with disabilities?
- Yes — accessible travel support is one of the most common reasons families reach out. Support can be arranged for travelers who use a wheelchair, a walker, a rollator or a cane, travelers who can walk short distances but not long concourses, and travelers who need help with pacing, transfers, restrooms and routines during a long travel day. Describe how the person moves through a normal day and we will tell you what we can arrange.
- Can someone help a wheelchair user through the airport and on the trip?
- Yes. A companion can stay with a wheelchair or mobility-device user through curbside, check-in, security, the concourse, gate changes and boarding, and be there again at arrival. Airline-provided wheelchair assistance inside the terminal remains the airline's service to give — Presence has no airline affiliation — but our companion stays with the traveler rather than handing them between staff.
- Can a caregiver, CNA or personal care attendant travel with my parent instead of a nurse?
- Yes. Many trips are best matched to a travel companion, a CNA or a medical assistant rather than a licensed nurse. Tell us what kind of help the traveler needs day to day and we will recommend the level that fits, within each caregiver's lawful scope of practice.
- Can someone travel with a child who needs extra support?
- Start with a conversation. Families traveling with a child who needs additional support are welcome to contact Presence so we can review the child's age, the itinerary, the support needed, our staffing, and whether appropriate support can be arranged for that specific trip. We will not accept a pediatric trip we are not the right fit for, and we will tell you that directly rather than leaving you to find out later.
- Can someone travel with a loved one after a hospital stay or rehab?
- Often yes, when the traveler is medically stable and cleared for ordinary commercial or personal travel. Post-hospital and post-rehab trips home, or trips to stay with family during recovery, are a frequent request. If the situation calls for clinical care or monitoring en route, that requires a medical transport provider instead, and we will say so.
- Can a companion handle connections, layovers and gate-to-gate support?
- Yes. Connections and layovers are usually the part families worry about most — tight transfers, a concourse change, a delay, a gate that moves. A companion stays with the traveler through the connection rather than leaving them at a gate, and can provide gate-to-gate or full door-to-door accompaniment depending on what you arrange.
- Can someone travel with my parent across the country or to another state?
- Yes. Interstate and cross-country trips can be arranged by air, or as a planned ground trip through our long-distance medical transportation service when flying isn't realistic. Send the origin, destination and dates and we will review both options with you.
- Can someone accompany us on a cruise or vacation?
- Tell us the itinerary and dates and we will review it. Cruise and extended-vacation support depends on staffing, the destination, and any authorization the cruise line or venue requires — so we confirm case by case rather than promising in advance.
- Can a nurse or companion travel in an RV or motorhome, or on a road trip?
- Yes, when arranged ahead of time and staffing allows. Road and RV trips are planned around driving hours, rest and restroom stops, medication timing, transfers, and how long the traveler can comfortably ride.
- Can you help with a family wedding, reunion, graduation or bucket-list trip?
- Yes. These are the trips families call about most. Send the dates, the destination, and the parts of the day where support would help, and we will confirm what we can staff.
- Can support continue throughout the vacation?
- It can be arranged that way. We agree in advance on the daily hours a companion is available, where they stay, and what they help with. This is companion and caregiving support — not around-the-clock skilled nursing unless that is specifically arranged and appropriate.
- Can you help with international or Mexico travel?
- Planning an international trip? Tell us your destination, itinerary and support needs, and Presence can review the trip and determine what support options may be available. We do not claim licensure, work authorization, insurance coverage or nursing services in another country or aboard a cruise vessel unless it has been verified for your specific trip.
- How much does it cost?
